About the Course
Working with children and adolescents experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours can be one of the most complex and emotionally demanding areas of clinical practice. Despite the prevalence of suicidality among youth, many clinicians receive limited training in evidence-based approaches to assessment and intervention. This on demand self-directed course is here to change that by providing a comprehensive Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework for understanding, assessing, and treating suicidality in these younger populations. In this course participants will learn how to conduct developmentally sensitive suicide assessments, differentiate between baseline and acute risk, and create meaningful case conceptualizations that guide effective risk assessment and treatment planning. The course then goes on to explore practical strategies for safety planning and demonstrations how both cognitive and behavioural CBT interventions can be utilized. Special attention is given to fostering hope, caregiver involvement and building relapse prevention plans that support long-term safety. By the end of the training, participants will have a clear, structured, and CBT-focused approach to confidently working with children and adolescents experiencing suicidality, and their families.
